- Know Your Niche
- Create A Brand
- Develop Your Sales Funnel
- Monetize Your Website
Let’s start at the top and work our way down shall we…
Home Business Blog | Knowing Your Niche
Here is a problem that most bloggers and people trying to build a home business blog have. They are not clear about the niche that they are trying to build their blog around.
Yes, you need to be clear about the niche that you are building your blog around! This is how your audience will deem you are a reliable source for information and how you start to build that trust with your audience.
Without a clear purpose to your blog or what niche you are in you are going to fail! It is just what happens online because you end up confusing the audience and losing what little attention span that we all have online.
Now I had someone ask me here recently if they needed a niche to make money because they thought that their website had no particular niche.
I told that person yes you can make money because your website does have a niche. You! It was a website that was about random personal options from this person. A very fun website that I really liked!
Now while that person can make money through their personality and personal options (which is what really builds a loyal audience) there was not a focus point to this person’s blog.
That is what audiences what from your blog. They want your options (or “fun rantings” as in this person’s case) but also to have those options be back up by facts, data, personal experience, and content that they can actually use and walk away from feeling like they gained some sort of value, whatever it might be!
That is the key right there! Quality content that people love to read because it is infused with your spunky personality and a person can leave having gained value from it, whether that be informational value, personal value, commercial value, or entertainment value.
I do believe we need to know what niche we are truly in for us to succeed online. Because if we don’t have a clear perspective on what niche we are in then neither will our audience!
Creating A Brand For Your Home Business Blog
Branding is a vital part for any home business blog. Now the common idea is that people think that your brand is solely in the domain name.
This is not true and there is a lot more to branding your blog than just your domain name. Your brand is your entire website.
From the images in your blog post to the way that you format your blog post, to the overall design of your website and the theme of your website.
This is all part of branding your website. I myself have been doing an autumn theme. I actually took a lot of myself pics right when the leaves fell last fall season and used those to brand my website.
I also always format my post the same. I have the main image up at the top and a video about 2 to 3 paragraphs down. I usually have a number list at the top explaining what we will be going over in that particular post.
I always use subheading to make my posts easy to scan through. I also like to use an image on the side of my posts as well.
Branding is also important for social media profiles as well. You want to keep your image the same across multiple social media platforms. This image needs to have a connection with your website as well.
Every Home Business Blog Needs To Consider How They Will Develop Their Sales Funnel
Every home business blog needs to consider how their sales funnels are going to work. You can’t just expect people to find your content and magically appear to your shopping cart.
This is a process that takes these steps:
- Creating a lead magnet, usually a free offer. (ebooks, newsletters, videos series, etc..)
- Deciding how your are going to market! (Content Marketing, Ads, Guest Post, etc…)
- How are you going to funnel your traffic into leads, (Call-To-Actions in your content, list builders, sidebar opt-ins, Smartbar, etc..)
- Continued engagement with your leads through email marketing. Market your products and services and give them pieces of your content with links back to your website for continued engagement.
Remember, your sales funnel needs to focus on building the two most important things needed to succeed online,
Without these to things you are dead in the water! How do we build these two important things? Through your blog! This is why blogging is so important today.
It allows you to build authority with your audience and through continued engagement earn their trust! Keep in mind this continued engagement does not only happen on your email list either!
Social media is a great place to build your authority and trust with people as well. This is not only done through content marketing on social media, but by actually engaging with the people themselves.
Here are 17 facebook groups that you can join and start engaging with people. Remember to help people with their questions, talk and engage with people, and truly get to know your audience!
You Need To Have Your Home Business Blog Monetized
When it comes to your home business blog you need to monetize your website. Now while this seems like a no-brainer (cause how are you going TO make money if your blog does not have any way to make money) I see a lot of people only using one way to monetize their blog.
Can you guess what that is? Adverts (a.k.a ads) seems to be the main way that people like to monetize their blog. While you can earn money running adverts on your website, it is not what is going to make you a living online.
People always think that there are so many ways to earn money online when in fact, there are really only 5 ways to earn money online.
- Selling Your Own Products
- Selling Your Services
- Affiliate Marketing
- Network Marketing (MLM)
- And yes, adverts as well
That is it! I mean, what more under the sun is there? This is how people make their living with their website. Now before you, all start saying, “You can make money freelance writing online and blah blah blah.” Yes, you can make a living freelance writing.
But realize that I am talking about your website, in particular, not contributing to other people’s websites! Okay, so now that we cleared that up, let’s get to how you can utilize these different ways to monetize your home business blog.
Selling your own Products is one of the most lucrative ways that you can monetize your website. This is a great way for people who have hobbies (painting, crocheting, jewelry making, wood carving, etc..) to earn money online and create that home business blog.
Keep in mind though that not all products have to be made out of physical material! You can have digital products such as videos (how to Videos and Course are really big right now), ebooks, and photography is great ways to monetize your website as well.
Selling your Services is another great way to generate residual income! I myself offer coaching packages to help people build a successful home business blog. But your services can range from consulting, life coaching, speaking engagements, etc…
Affiliate Marketing is an awesome way to monetize your website. Just as Pat Flynn at smartpassiveincome.com. Affiliate marketing is a great source of income and can bring you a lot more money than Google Adsense ever can!
Some great places to find affiliate products are:
- ClickBank.com: This is an awesome website, especially if you are new to affiliate marketing, to get hop links to products. They make signing up easy and getting your hop links even easier!
- JvZoo.com: This is also another great place to get affiliate products for your website. They require you to fill out a W9 form but make the process very easy to get through.
- AmazonAssociates: is another great place to get affiliate products from. The have a very wide range of products that can accommodate any website niche.
- Walmart: Yes, Walmart has jumped into the affiliate game. I personally have not checked out their affiliate program yet, but I am eager to learn what they have to offer!
- Websites Themselves: There is a lot of websites that offer their own affiliate products that you can sign up for. Just look in the footer of their website for a link that says affiliate.
Network Marketing (a.k.a Multi-Level Marketing) is another great way to earn money online. Now I know that a lot of people view Network Marketing as a pyramid scheme.
But because of the internet we have come a long ways from the days of trying to push Mary Kay products off onto your friends and family (a.k.a the coldest market out there!)
This is great for people who are real Go-Getters. Make sure that you read the company’s compensation plan and if you have an upline make sure it is someone who is experienced and has a plan for marketing those products already established for you to follow.
Now here is the secret on how you make your home business blog really successful. By combining all five things that I have listed above in your website.
Make how to videos or courses to sell, have services that you can offer, have affiliate products that you use and recommend to others, and yes, dive into the exciting world of network marketing.
This is how you get the most out of your website, and how you really start to turn your blog into a home business blog!
Yes, You Can Turn Your Blog Into A Home Business
Turning your blog into a home business is not easy. Especially one that you want to replace your current income from your job.
I am also not going to lie to you and tell you that there are all these great shortcuts and get rich systems out there that work. Because there is not!
It takes hard work, passion for what you are doing, and the knowledge behind that passion for getting it done. This is why I offer coaching services for those people who have the passion and drive to start earning an income from their blog!
If you don’t have either passion or drive for your niche, then I would advise that you keep your day job and blog as a hobby, not as a professional career.
Anyone who is willing to go through the trials and take the time to build real residual income from their blog is the people that I love to help and the ones who succeed online.
